not a blow-out year, it was a year of healthy growing pains. New
York seemed to do better than most places
and definitely healthier than 2002! Black Dice and Animal Collective
literally blazed new forest paths...
and don't sleep on Sightings! Donna Summer and Drop the Lime came
correct for US breakcore, while Wasteland
debuted a solid full-length. J's from our neighborhood and "Encore"
shines. 50, well...
If 3rd Eye Foundation was VU, than Matt Elliot's new one is Lou
Reed's "Berlin." Big Jus aka Nephilim Modulation
Systems was one of the few to question Bush - respect... and maybe
the reason so much music did suck last year.
If it's gonna suck, bring on Dizzee - super buggedly innovative.
If you haven't heard this record, get it. A lot of the
underground blew its wad in 2002 and we expect rebounds in 2004.
Nonetheless, Electric Kettle, Electromeca,
Nettle, LFO Demon and Zea dropped solid slept-on shit. Here's hoping
for an end to the somnambulism in 2004.
